Celulose Irani manufactures Kraft paper ranging from 30 to 200 g / m² in the following lines: FineKraft, FlashKraft, FlatKraft, FlexiKraft, EnveloKraft BagKfrat suitable for flexible packaging and Kraftliner, Testliner, Miolo (Core) and Reciclado (Recycled) for rigid packaging.

IRANI paper is marketed in Brazil and internationally.

The Paper Production Plant (Paper Mill), located in Vargem Bonita - SC has FSC Chain of Custody certification. This certification allows IRANI manufacture some of their products with the FSC seal, as the Company uses certified and controlled raw materials in its manufacturing process.

The Chain of Custody certification assures consumers that the product was manufactured using raw materials from certified and controlled forests. In this type of certification, there must be safeguards to control the origin, handling and tracking of the raw materials used in all production stages, from the forest to the final product.

IRANI papers also have specific certifications for coming into contact with food.

IRANI papers are produced in Manufacturing Unit in Vargem Bonita - SC. The Paper Mill has a production capacity of 17,000 tons per month.

The paper produced from wood pulp is manufactured in five stages:

Pine and eucalyptus wood are the raw materials most commonly used for papermaking. After cutting, the logs are peeled, giving rise to the chips that generate the pulp and are they are also used as fuel to produce steam and electricity.

Wood is made of cellulose fibers bonded to each other by "glue", called lignin. To convert wood into pulp, the fibers must be separated by removing the lignin.

Mechanical Process
The pulp is obtained by pressing the trunks against the grinding stones in the presence of water. Often the wood is treated with steam and chemicals that facilitate the separation of the lignin fibers. The pulp resulting from this process is called chemi-thermomechanical pulp (CTMP).

Chemical Process
The wood chips or cut plant material, are mixed with chemicals and heated under high pressure in huge vessels, called digesters. The combined action of chemicals and heat dissolves the lignin and separate the fibers. Paper made from chemical pulp is very strong, as is the case of Kraft, a word of Germanic origin that means strength.

Recycling Process 
This is done by the disintegration of wood chips in water inside pulpers (huge blenders). Contaminating elements such as plastic, metal and polyethylene are separated from the mixture. When necessary, the removal of pulp ink (deinking) is carried out by the combined action of water, chemicals, heat and mechanical energy. The pulp is used to manufacture recycled cardboard, newsprint and paper used in industry and homes.

The manufacture of certain kinds of paper requires that the pulp is bleached. For this, chemicals are used to eliminate the lignin. The resulting pulp is whiter and has lower tendency to yellow over time. Research and investments have considerably helped the paper industry reduce the environmental impact of the bleaching process.

When the pulp slurry reaches the headbox of the paper machine, it contains more than 99% water. The slurry is cast in the form of a uniform thin jet onto a moving fabric mesh, the forming mesh. The filtering action of the forming screen, combined with a vacuum system, drains the bulk of water contained in the pulp, thus forming a sheet of paper. The sheet is pressed between rollers to remove more water. Then, through the dryer section, which comes into contact with drying cylinders that extract most of the remaining water by evaporation.

Finishing consists of the conversion steps in cut sheets and packaging of all the manufactured products. The process uses modern equipment for cutting, packaging and palletizing – the most widely used technique for handling and storage of cargo throughout the supply chains. Currently, at most of the factories, all production is performed automatically, without manual contact.

Paper Machine

Headbox: This has the purpose of distributing the fibers suspension on the screen, like a blade it remains as even as possible.

Flat Table:  This is the part of the paper machine where the paper sheet is formed.
Presses: The paper sheet, when leaving the table, is already formed. However, 80% to 85% of its makeup is still pure water. The purpose of the presses is to remove
some of this water.

Drying: This is the part of the paper machine where the final drying of the sheet is done. The drying is done by drying cylinders providing, on one-side, smoothness and gloss accents.

Before the creation of paper, man expressed himself in curious ways. The records date from the most remote prehistoric times, when designs were engraved with sharp rocks on cave walls. Over time, people have been perfecting their expression techniques.

In the late eighteenth century, the industrial revolution increased the demand for paper, creating a market with a huge demand for consumption. In the early nineteenth century, the paper industry took off with the invention of continuous production machinery and the use of wood pulp that led to the development and strengthening of the market of books, newspapers and other types of consumer products. In 1860 AD, coated paper was developed and in Finland, the first laws on forestry practices emerged.

For much of its history, paper was handmade. In the mid-seventeenth century the Dutch began to apply hydraulic power to move large stones that moved against each other, improved the preparation of the fibers for paper production. Called "Hollander Beater", these devices still are used today.

The first papermaking machine was invented in France by Nicholas-Louis Robert in 1799. Shortly thereafter, the Fourdrinier brothers showed a method of continuous paper production, perfected in England

The technology has been improved over time. In the second half of the nineteenth century, when wood replaced rags in paper production, the "Fourdrinier" machines won important changes.

Advances in chemical composition of the paper transformed its manufacturing, which achieved an industrial scale. The machines were modernized and reached a high degree of automation and productivity.

In India, they used palm leaves, and the Inuit people used whalebones and seal teeth to record their experiences. In China, books were produced from the shells and turtle shells, and later from bamboo and silk.

The materials that came closer to the paper as we know it today were parchment and papyrus, which comes from the Latin word "papyrus" to designate a plant from the Cepar family (Cyperua papyrus), and this means paper. Parchment was produced from animal skin, a lot tougher than papyrus, and therefore had a much higher cost.

The papyrus was used by the Egyptians 2,400 years before Christ. Its use has enabled thousands of documents to be preserved throughout history.

However, the primacy of paper manufacturing, as we know it today is the Chinese, in the sixth century BC, they began producing a white tissue paper for painting and writing.

Historians attribute T'sai Lun, an official of the Chinese Imperial Court (150 AD), the precedence of the origin of paper. The manufacturing technique was kept secret for almost 600 years. There is evidence that from the year 751 AD - when Arabs imprisoned Chinese art connoisseurs and they exchanged its knowledge for freedom - the dissemination of knowledge on the production of handmade paper started.

From 1000 AD until about 1830 AD. , the basic raw material for making paper was old rags, but this custom was banned in the XVII century because of the belief  that it favored the spread of bubonic plague.

In Brazil, paper was first manufactured in 1809, in Rio de Janeiro. Then it arrived in Sao Paulo with the industrial development caused by the arrival of European immigrants to work in coffee growing. They brought with them knowledge of the paper production process.

Today, there are many Brazilian states producing different types of paper, paperboard, packaging, for printing and writing, for printing and sanitary purposes, in addition to the special types of paper.

According to the Brazilian Association of Pulp and Paper (Bracelpa) over the past ten years, the country has increased its production by 36.1%, with an average annual growth of 3.1%, following the changes in the Brazilian economy.

Currently, the demand for paper has forced the paper industry to manufacture various types and weights, according to needs. In addition, there has been a concern to preserve the source of the raw material. The practices of reforestation in everyday business have been adopted as a way to ensure self-sustainable production of wood for cellulose extraction and thereby contribute to environmental balance.
